About This Procedure:

A hysteroscopy uses a scope to evaluate and treat disorders of the vagina, uterus and fallopian tubes.  The hysteroscope, a thin tube with a light and camera, is passed into the body through the vagina to the uterus.

The procedure is done to check for uterine problems including heavy bleeding, tissue growths, tumors or reasons for infertility.  For this particular procedure a tissue sample, called a biopsy, is taken.

A hysteroscopy is done outpatient or in the doctor’s office and the patient returns home the same day.  Patients can save money by shopping for this service as there may be many outpatient centers locally that offer this care.
