About This Procedure:
In this minimally invasive surgery, the prostate gland is removed because it has been determined to be cancerous. The surgery is done with a laparoscope, a tube with a light, camera and surgical tools, that is passed into the body through small cuts in the belly.
This is a treatment for prostate cancer by removing the cancerous organ as well as surrounding tissue. However, this may not achieve a complete cure and can be followed by chemotherapy or radiation therapy or both.
This particular surgery is done in the hospital and patients can expect to stay between one to three days.
