About This Procedure:

A patient and physical therapist prepare a physical therapy (PT) plan to record the patient’s condition, the care needed, and progress over time.  It includes the types of therapy and the treatment goals like regaining strength and range of motion to walk, climb stairs and do other daily activities.

Physical therapy exercise sessions can help to regain function like moving joints more easily, strengthen muscles, and improve energy and endurance.  PT exercises include: stretching, aerobic exercises like fast walking or using a stationary bike, and balancing on a gymnastics ball.  These exercises help people to recover from surgery or injury so they can do daily tasks more easily, manage pain, and restore lost function due to long-term health problems like arthritis.
