About This Procedure:

A transvaginal ultrasound uses sound waves to take pictures of a woman’s pelvic area including the vagina, cervix, ovaries, uterus, and fallopian tubes.  A probe is placed in the vagina and the pictures are viewed on a computer screen.

This ultrasound is used to check problems like pelvic pain, vaginal bleeding, cysts, infertility, and if an IUD is correctly placed.  This exam is not the one done for pregnancy care.

The procedure’s price varies a lot as it can be done in a number of settings – like a doctor’s office, an outpatient center, or a hospital outpatient department.  This procedure takes about 15-20 minutes; you return home the same day.
