About This Procedure:
For infertility, if a woman is having trouble getting pregnant, there is an x-ray to check for possible reasons related to the woman. This x-ray, a hysterosalpinogogram (HSG), takes pictures of the fallopian tubes and uterus to check for abnormalities. A dye is injected into the uterus and fallopian tubes to sharpen the picture. The fallopian tubes are the path, for the fertilized egg, from the ovaries to the uterus where the baby grows during pregnancy.
The procedure’s price varies a lot as it can be done in a number of settings – like a doctor’s office, an outpatient center, or a hospital outpatient department.
There is no single best test to explain women’s infertility. Among the tests used are: i) a Pap smear to check for infection or cervical cancer, ii) blood and urine tests to check hormone levels and if eggs are being released, and iii) ultrasound and scope exams to look at the health of the reproductive organs.
