About This Procedure:
Pre-teen and teenagers, ages 12-17, should have a yearly check-up visit also called wellness care. These visits concern many aspects of an adolescent’s health like physical exams, emotional health screening, sexual health, and harmful behaviors counseling. The doctor and teen should build trust as a time comes when parents usually are not in the exam room.
These wellness visits are to see that the teen is healthy and, if any problems, to find them early and take the right steps for healthy growth and development.
Most, but not all, health insurance plans must cover these child preventive services at no cost to the family.
