About This Procedure:

After some cataract surgeries, a membrane that is a natural part of the eye becomes cloudy and vision is blurred.  About 1 of every 5 people who have cataract surgery develop this problem – sometimes immediately after the cataract surgery or even years later.

In this procedure, called YAG laser capsulotomy, the laser creates an opening in the clouded area of the eye so light rays can pass to the back of the eye which improves vision. In most cases, YAG surgery is a one-time repair and no repeat laser procedures are needed.

The procedure’s price varies a lot as it can be done in a number of settings – like a doctor’s office, an outpatient center, or a hospital outpatient department.  This minor surgery takes only minutes and the patient goes home the same day.
