About This Procedure:

Cutting the fallopian tubes is surgery to prevent pregnancy by blocking the path for sperm to get to eggs.  The procedure uses a laparoscope, a tube with a light, camera and surgical tools, that is passed into the body through small cuts in the belly.  The fallopian tubes are cut and sealed by heat.

This particular surgery is done by cutting the tubes; in other approaches the fallopian tubes are blocked with clips or rings. For women who wish to become pregnant there is a better chance of reversing the surgery if done by blocking rather than cutting the tubes.

The procedure’s price varies a lot as it can be done in a number of settings – like a doctor’s office, an outpatient center, or a hospital outpatient department.
